No, there is no explanation. I've had a slight artist's block for a few weeks now, and got my copy of Exposé 6 a few days ago and looked through it and WHOOSH! Inspiration hit.

I had that particular pose in mind from the beginning, but it was tricky to find or shoot a ref, so I pulled out my dusty copy of Poser 6 and (mis)posed a figure, then threw it into Vue d'Esprit 4 and rendered for reference. The result was absolutely godawful, but it was still better than nothing. After that it took 3 days of scribbling with Painter 9 and Wacom Intuos and there you have it, in all its incomprehensible glory.
